Michael Bay receiving award for excellence in filmmaking!?

Yes ladies and gentlemen you read that right.  The man behind such Oscar worthy films such as Pearl Harbor, The Island, Armageddon, and who can forget the superb Lionel Ritchie video, Do it to me, has been selected to receive the ShoWest 2009 Vanguard Award for excellence in filmmaking.

According to the Sho-West co-managing director Mitch Neuhauser: “Michael Bay’s aggressive visual style and memorable action sequences leave audiences at the edge of their seats and running back to the theaters for more with each new release,”

According to this information we all should make way for such upcoming recipients as  Renny Harlin(Cutthroat Island,Driven), Joel Schumacher (Batman and Robin), Rob Cohen (XXX), and Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil) to receive such awards in the futute.

Maybe now we can finally look forward to having a sequel to The Island or Armegeddon being greenlit.

One thing that can be said is Mr. Bay sure can bring butts into the seats as his films have grossed $1,093,670,821 after just 7 films. If Hollywood is in fact being affected by the recession, Michael Bay is the man to bring the system back in the green.
