McAvoy and Cruise wanted for At The Mountains of Madness

Guillermo del Toro recently announced in July that he would be making At The Fountain of Madness for his next film. The film is gearing up to shoot in 3-D next year with James Cameron producing. Now, casting seems to have begun, but del Toro and the studio think differently about who should be cast in the lead.

According to Collider, Universal is wanting James McAvoy (X-Men: First Class) to play the role of Dyer, but del Toro wants Tom Cruise. Chris Pine (Star Trek) is also another name being considered, but he may be too busy. Cruise may not be a strange choice as Del Toro recently dropped out of making a new take on Van Helsing with Cruise producing (here).

Filming is scheduled to begin in May, which would leave both Cruise and McAvoy free. The film will reportedly feature a lot of action, with a light atmosphere. The film will be based off of H.P. Lovecraft’s novel Lovecraft’s novel of the same name.
