Martin is having himself a Big Year

Submitted by Melissa Molina on March 11, 2010 – 11:01 amNo Comment

Steve Martin could be having one for all we know, but one thing is for certain and that’s his attachment on the upcoming comedy Big Year. The writer and actor will be co-starring alongside Owen Wilson and Jack Black in the film scooped up under Fox 2000 Pictures.

The story is about three men who try to outdo each other in a bird-watching competition to spot the rarest birds in North America. The rivalry is an allegory for the challenges each faces in his own life (THR). The plot is based off of the same story line of the novel The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature and Fowl Obsession written by Mark Obmascik.

Writing the picture is Howard Franklin, who’s previous credits include Romancing the Stone and Antitrust, with The Devil Wears Prada director David Frankel helming the feature. Ben Stiller, Karen Rosenfelt and Stuart Cornfeld  are producing under Red Hour Films along with Carol Fenelon and Curtis Hanson for Deuce Three Productions. Principal photography is expected to start up in May over in Canada.
