Mark Millar talks Wanted 2
It’s been a while since anything has been heard on the status of Wanted 2. The film is reportedly still alive, with rumors about Kristen Stewart (Twilight) replacing Angelina Jolie as the female lead. However, it’s still unknown what stage of development the film is in.
Mark Millar, creator of the comics, isn’t particularly concerned if the film even gets made or not. He told MTV that making “Wanted 2 is complicated.” Millar is interested in doing the film, but won’t be concerned if it doesn’t get made. “There’s no book [for] ‘Wanted 2.’ I would like to do [the movie]. I say if it happens, great. If it doesn’t, I’m not bothered,” he said. While it may seem as if Millar is being unprofessional, he admits that a sequel was never intended. “I only intended to write down one book, six issues. I had no interest in doing anything beyond that, you know, I was happy with it,” Millar said.
That doesn’t mean he wasn’t pressured into writing a sequel, but he doesn’t want to make a sequel just for the money. “But I don’t really write the comics for money, I write them comics because I like them. Sometimes I do things for almost no money at all just because I like doing it, so the idea to write a sequel just because the movie was big seems almost unethical,” he said. Those who read the comic know the film was loosely based on Millar’s creation, so he wouldn’t need to write a comic book sequel. As for the rumors about Kristen Stewart starring in the film, Millar admits she has been approached, but nothing is finalized just yet.
