Malkovich takes over for Reily in Red

Submitted by Melissa Molina on January 11, 2010 – 11:05 amNo Comment

John Malkovich is getting a good number of publicity casting-wise within the past couple of days, the latest of it having to do with the comic book adaptation of Red. The actor is set to sign onto the spy thriller and co-star with Bruce Willis, taking over the role that once was given to John C. Reilly. Reilly apparently stepped off the role in late December for reasons unknown, but production is still on track for the Summit Entertainment piece.

The part will allow Malkovich to exercise his comic sensibilities as he plays retired a CIA agent, a contemporary of Willis’, who is erratic and paranoid that everyone is out to kill him and joins Willis in is quest to find out who wants them dead (THR). The script is penned by Erich and Jon Hoeber and is being directed by Robert Schwentke. The cast includes the likes of Morgan Freeman, Mary-Louise Parker, Helen Mirren, Karl Urban and a slew of others. Red is slated to come out in theaters on October 22nd of this year with initial filming commencing this week.
