Location scouting for Iron Man 3 underway

Marvel sure does like to think ahead of themselves. Production on Joss Whedon’s The Avengers hasn’t even begun yet, but Marvel is already thinking of their post-Avengers line-up. While we’ve heard many of the possible films Marvel has planned (here, here, and here), Iron Man 3 is a certain. A release date has already been set for May of 2013,  and it now looks as if Marvel is already looking into filming locations.

The Record gets word that Marvel Studios is looking to use Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s EMPAC (Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center) in the film. “These types of location scouting inquiries and negotiations about EMPAC take place all the time. At this point, there is absolutely nothing certain or definitive about Iron Man 3,” said Michael Mullaney, a Rensselaer spokesman. It’s speculated the location could be used as the laboratory for the film’s villain, which is speculated to be The Mandarin. Nothing is certain yet, and it will be sometime before any deal is made.
