Live-action The Little Mermaid in the works

Ever since the success of Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland, Walt Disney is looking through the vault to see what other properties that can be brought to life. There’s already a live-action film on Cinderella planned, as well as development on Maleficent. Now, The Little Mermaid will be getting a live-action adaptation.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Working Title Films will be developing a live-action film on Christian Andersen’s fairytale with director Joe Wright. This will mark the first time The Little Mermaid has been adapted into a live-action film. The classic tale has been made into various stages productions. Abi Morgan is penning the script.
