Lionsgate sinks their teeth into Buried

After what was said to be a fairly heated bidding war throughout a little portion of Sunday turned into success for the folks over at Lionsgate as they grab the Ryan Reynolds claustrophobic feature Buried for $3.2 Million. The feature, directed by Rodrigo Cortes, centers on Paul (Reynolds), a U.S. contractor working in Iraq. After an attack by a group of Iraqis he wakes to find he is buried alive inside a coffin. With only a lighter and a cell phone it’s a race against time to escape this claustrophobic death trap. After the premiere at Sundance spawned quite a few positive reviews, it was only a matter of time before this got picked up.

“‘Buried’ is a powerful reminder that all you really need for an unforgettable movie experience is a great story, inventive filmmaking and brilliant acting,” Jason Constantine, Lionsgate’s president of acquisitions and co-productions, said in a statement (LA Times).

This is a big deal coming from the Sundance Film Festival, since after the first weekend there has not been too much negotiating going on at the moment, but since it’s already buckling into it’s final few days there will be more news on other projects as well. Since your curious now at this point about this feature, here’s an exclusive clip from MTV Movies Blog for you all to look at.:
