Lionsgate puts down some hard cash for Terminator

Submitted by Melissa Molina on January 13, 2010 – 9:18 pmOne Comment

If anyone wants to still grab the rights to the Terminator series, you better break open your piggy banks, because Lionsgate has the number to beat now. The production company punched in $15 Million to the bidding, becoming the highest bidder in the ongoing fight to get the rights to the popular science fiction franchise. The LA Times reports that if anyone were to make a bid, they would have to act quickly. The shut out time is on February 5th and the bid to throw in should be of $500,000 or more compared to what Lionsgate coughed out.

Terminator Salvation mage an estimated $372 Million worldwide, pretty good for a film that had apparently a $200 Million dollar budget. Whether or not Lionsgate will end up being the winning bidder to grab the rights from Halcyon’s hands remains to be seen, unless somebody else steps up. At the moment Warner Bros Pictures and Sony Pictures have not shown any interest in wanting to purchase the rights.

I hope whoever gets the rights doesn’t make anymore sequels, the story was done at T2. And, if they do make them more than just mindless action flicks. As much as I loved T4, when you break it down its just a dumb action flick. The first two are more than that.
