Liam Neeson has been cast in Battleship

Filming on Peter Berg’s Battleship began today and has added a last minute addition to its cast. The film already has odd cast of Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood), Taylor Kitsch (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), and R&B singer, Rihanna. Now, Deadline Hollywood reports that Liam Neeson has joined the cast of Battleship.

Neeson will play Admiral Shane, who’s daughter (Victoria Secret model Brooklyn Decker) is engaged to Hopper (Taylor Kitsch). His character will also be in charge of the  USS John Paul Jones, with Hopper also on board. The film will be loosely based off the board game of the same name, with the Navy fighting off an alien invasion.

Battleship will open on May 18, 2012.
