Lebanon – A Movie in a Tank.

Samuel Maoz’s new movie, “Lebanon is a sensual film in the dictionary sense of the word. The majority of the action takes place inside the tank, and a hot, sweaty, rusted-out place it is, rank with the odours of men and fear,” according to the Toronto International Film Festival guide.

This movie tells the tale of a lone tank and a platoon of paratroopers during the Lebanon War. The movie is based on Maoz’ own experience during the war. He was a “twenty-year-old novice soldier in the initial days of the first Lebanon War. Traumatized by his time in combat, he for years manifested his distress as outbursts of anger and long stretches of depression.” Maoz’ personal demons caused him to take almost 30 years to adapt his story to a fictionalized tale.

The film is shot in the director’s native Hebrew and runs 95 minutes long. This is showing at the Venice Film Festival, where it debuted, and will be at the Toronto International Film Festival.

  1. this is a movie which shows war with not holds bared. A tank is not a comfortable place to live. Until the wold will hold on to the fiction that Israel is not a member state, their cannot be a reasonable conversation about the issues. No one is right and no one is wrong. that is yet to be shown. should be that things will show me to wrong, but I doubt it. the world has had enough time to recognize that Israel is not going away any time soon.

  2. Why it is Soo important to Keep Isreal as a state in the middle of the arab, and Muslim world? Does any one ever asked this question? Is it really Important to steal some one land a nd keep the war going on for more than 60 years?why it was not created in Europe? Is there more behind this whole issue than a jewish home?Of course ,
evil Zionist and world Cristian Crusades to control the middle east
and to impose their force .War is only the out cover of the devilish plan.

    Ger Reply:

    Nathalie,

Why it was not created in Europe???

Thats the most stupid question I heard in my whole life.
    Because…..whatever….read the historybooks.

    sam Reply:

You moron, if you read the history books you find things like ‘the ethnic cleansing of Palestine’ telling the true story of a blood thirsty bunch of thugs who created a ‘state’ some 60 years ago over the blood of innocent Palestinians.
The war continues because the Palestinians did not bend over, Israel and its god father will continue to suck the blood out of people of the area until they get stopped.

you both have legitimate claims to this land, this will never change,so freakin live together or kill each other, stop your whining!!

Ger, It’s FULL of ignorant Cattles like You. Apologize to Nathalie and Shut your stupid mouth or else I’ll rip your dead heart out of your ugly goofy mouth

    Anonymous Reply:

BRAVO Nathalie, I wish more people were like You! Those so-called Israelis are NOT Jews, they are Eurasian Nazis. They are all in it together, “Israel”,US and EU(specifically those highly criminals British)

    felix Reply:

Uh, Nathalie, when you speak of “evil Zionists and World Cristian (sic) crusaders” I have to wonder if you have any concept of how islam spread and achieved dominance? Why does Islam have the privilege of expelling other faiths (the Saudi peninsula used to have numerous Jewish settlements, for example) and establishing the status quo but no one else does? There is some weird western liberal handwringing that seems to permit everyone *but* westerners the right to invade and dominate and subsume adjacent cultures to it’s purpose.
Here’s another example. Hawaiian radical nativists bemoan modern Hawaii as a conquered Nation, except they seem to forget that their own Kings conquered other Hawaiian kingdoms to expand their empire… why is it o.k. for Maui to have been conquered by the Hawaii’s (the big island) King but America (as it was then ) should not do the same?

Natalie, you are well educated and know the facts right, your knowledge of historical events is fantastic. I wonder if you are a Harvard scholar by any chance.I am so impressed you found the time to write your nonsense here.

  3. Why do people with stupid views never type correct english?

    I agree with Ger.
Stupid questions merrit a stupid answer…

    Sinky Reply:

Marco – “Stupid questions merrit a stupid answer…”

Being pedantic about grammar, punctuation and spelling does not negate the fact that the points made by others are valid and historically accurate.

Also, people who “type correct english” know that it’s spelt ‘merit’ NOT ‘merrit’. Take a good hard look at yourself before criticising others, enough said…

  4. people i’m lebanese born on 26th of march 1987 in beirut my parents had to flee lebanon because of the war so i saw evil on a early age.. i know what the zionists are capable of and thats mass murder of inocent children and women and when we desided to defend our country from forner invadors they called us terrorists hezbullah are terrorist haraket amal are terrorists every resistance group in lebanon is a form of terrorist group.. rightous way to defend your country in there eyes is to shut up and die quitly well sorry fellaz FUCK YOU ALLL

    Michael Cook Reply:

Only Zionists are capable of mass murder? The entire conflict between Arab-States and Israel is ridiculous, and trying to pin the blame on one group or the other merely establishes the ignorance the accuser. Lebanon’s own civil problems have led to millions fleeing from Lebanon, not just contention with Israel. Lebanon was also defending itself from its own people, and has been since.

Mixing politics and religion is the cause of this stupid conflict, and if both parties would stop being babies about , the conflict would resolve itself. Yes, I see that Israel getting placed there was a problem 62 years ago, but come on. All this bloodshed over 8,020 square miles? All three majors religions have so much in common that they’re comparable to churches within the Christian faith. They all come from the same source, but some of the fine details are different.

    sam Reply:

You must be kidding. You really believe what you say? Religious ‘conflicts’ are the manifestations of economic and political issues. Sheep are herded under the flag of religion to satisfy political means. The fact of the matter is that the Lebanese civil war was a direct consequence of the cancerous Israeli presence in the area and to satisfy its interests. And yes, mass murder is not committed by the idf only but it sure is their speciality

  5. Good evening people.I’m an italian boy that is so fascinated by the song of last scene in the film, when the man go out from the tank.Someone know what is the title of this song?
    Thank you so much!
    Ciao.

  6. People read history. The land that is currently Israel was NOT stolen. It was bought and paid for by U.N. Member countries as a way to help the Hebrew people who were slaughtered by Nazi Germany. The land was bought from Arab landowners. The land was originally uninhabitable and the Arab landowners originally assumed that they made a great deal. However the Hebrew people thrived and created a country from scratch and when the surrounding countries observed this they themselves became envious. Its all there in the history books. Open your eyes and see it with an open mind and heart.

exactly right. arabs are whiners. that’s why they will always be at the bottom of the human ladder

Your mother is a fucking bitch who is at the bottom of my pants you faggot I am Lebanese and if I see you I’ll tear your fucking tongue out

    Claudek Reply:

    Hello there,

Could I suggest that everyone watch Lebanon again? That may answer some of your questions and calm your minds. Think of the scene towards the end between the Israeli soldier and the Syrian prisoner. It really shows the utter absurdity of war, the intimacy that can take place between all human beings, and all this without judgment or didactic comments of any kind.

Maybe art should be our religion???

You’re sooooooooo FAR from the Truth!

  7. For me, the film was a very intense reminder of Just how intense the conflict (not a conflict, a war) is between Syria (sp?) and Lebanon. I’m sure that what was shown in just an hour and a half happens every single day. Citizens being demolished because they’re in the way, fear that your death is just waiting around the corner (the man with the RPG). This movie was the most intense combat related film I’ve EVER seen. I have a feeling (or a hope)that it will someday be used in some kind of Middle Eastern History class.
