Jon Favreau to possibly bring the Magic Kingdom to life

Walt Disney has been hard at work bringing its theme park attractions to life on the big screen. We’ve already had an entire trilogy with a fourth film currently in production on their Pirates of the Caribbean ride, and Guillermo del Toro is producing a reboot of Haunted Mansion (here). However, it seems to be taking too long for them to get a film for each ride, so it’s been decided to make one massive film about the Magic Kingdom.

Deadline Hollywood reports that Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Iron Man 2) is in talks to direct Magic Kingdom. So, just what could a film about a theme park feature? Well, it’ll supposedly feature all the park attractions coming to life. The film has been in the works for a couple of years, and even had Ron Moore (Battlestar Gallactica) penning the script. However, a new writer is being brought in to work with Favreau. Although, it’s uncertain where he’ll fit this project in his schedule with him attached to Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, and is most likely directing Iron Man 3 due out a year later (here).

Disney is no doubt trying to cash-in on the success of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, but on a more massive scale. The film will most likely be more of like Twentieth Century Fox’s Night at the Museum films. Marc Abraham and Eric Newman of Strike Entertainment are set to produce the film. There’s no word on when the studio will begin casting just yet.
