J.J. Abrams and the Dark Tower
Stephen King took 22 long years to finally complete his sprawling epic known as The Dark Tower series. As reported here, Damon Lindelof, the co-creator of Lost and J.J. have just bought the rights to the books from King. Frank Darabont (The Mist) was rumored to be the one to direct a film version a while back, but now it looks like Star Trek helmer might have a say. No confirmation on a release date, stars, or if Abrams himself is directing.
I would expect something more concrete next year, as J.J. should be tied up with Star Trek 2 and Mission: Impossible 4. I would be very excited to see how Abrams decides to bring the 7 books into a possible trilogy, without alienating the fans of the series. If anyone could do it, it would be him.
