James Cameron to direct 3D documentary on Amazon tribe
James Cameron will be returning to Brazil to direct a new 3D documentary on the Xikrin Kayapo tribe.
Cameron told Folha de Sao Paulo (via The Herald Sun) that he will be meeting with the Xikrin-Kayapo once again for a new documentary. “I want to return to meet some of the leaders of the Xikrin-Kayapo tribe who invited me,” Cameron said. This documentary will be showing the tribe’s culture, and how they live everyday life. “I want to take a 3D camera to film how they live, their culture,” he continued.
After Cameron “did a film on the same topic,” referring to Avatar, he couldn’t turn away when asked to help. “The Brazilian Indians, who were desperate, I could not turn away,” he said. The project to construct the dam was green-lit last week, but opponents say the construction would cause 16,000 people to lose their land. This documentary will be featured on the Collector’s Edition of Avatar when it’s released on November 16.
