James Cameron producing True Lies TV series (Updated)

Hopes for a big-screen sequel to James Cameron’s True Lies may be out of the question, but that’s doesn’t mean we still can’t see more on the small screen. After Cameron shattered box-office records with Titanic in 1997, he went on to create his first TV series, Dark Angel. Cameron will now be following the same path, with the creation of a TV series based on True Lies.

Deadline Hollywood reports that Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainemnt and Twentieth Century Fox TV will be creating the project, and is currently being sent out to networks. The film focused on Harry Tasker (Arnold Schwarzenegger), who lived a double-life as a government spy. Harry then discovers his wife, Helen (Jamie Lee Curtis), and tries to fix his marriage, while dealing with terrorists. It’s unknown if the series will be a sequel to Cameron’s 1994 action-comedy at this time.

This will be the second time one of Cameron’s hit films has gotten a television series. Fox recently created Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, which served as a sequel to Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Rene Echevarria will be writing this new series, with James Cameron, Rae Sanchini, and Jon Landau producing. As for Cameron’s next feature film, he’s still deciding on directing Battle Angel, The Dive, or to go straight into the Avatar sequels.

Update: The series will be airing on ABC, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
