Is Star Trek 2 going into production soon?

There has been much rumor and speculation as to when the sequel to J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek was going into production. According to Digital Spy, Zoe Saldana says the film will be going to into production this fall.:

“I do think we’re going into pre-production (on a Star Trek follow-up) starting this fall to start shooting early next year,”

The last time we heard from Zoe Saldana on the status of the film, Abrams himself dismissed what she said. However, Abrams did give a tentative release date for 2012, so there could be some truth to this. I would recommend taking this as a rumor for now since we’ve heard nothing from Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman on the script.
