Is nothing sacred? The Neverending Story and Total Recall, set for remake
Certainly, this makes you long for the days of creativity, when a vast amount of films being released now days are remakes/redo’s of other films, often of which don’t require another film and stand alone as being great.  Today, comes word via THR that the classic 80′s children’s film The Neverending Story, is being looked upon to be remade under Leonardo DiCaprio‘s production company Appian Way, and the Kennedy/Marhsall company.  Now, sure the Kennedy Marshall company have  produced stellar work in the past.  But with such fond memories of the original film, and it’s lovable and cartoonish dragon/dog Falkor, it is hard to imagine a quality film coming from something so inherently campy and fun.
Even the wonderful Total Recall, is now being touted as a possible remake based on the fact alone that technology has grown in leaps and bounds since the film was released back in 1990, that it would make the remake worthwhile. Â Call me crazy, but shouldn’t the story be the biggest reason? The original film was based on the classic story by Phillip K. Dick entitled “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” and directed by Paul Verhoeven, whose previous credits include Showgirls and Robocop.
