Iron Man falls out of Gravity, but may learn How to Talk to Girls

The news for Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravityseems to get worse and worse. Things were already looking bad for the film when Angelina Jolie turned down the lead role, not once, but twice. It was looking as if Natalie Portman was up for the part, but she also turned down the role (here). The ongoing search was delaying the project, and was in danger of loosing another big star, Robert Downey, Jr. (here).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Downey has officially dropped out of the film, and is already looking to star in How to Talk to Girls. The film is an adaptation of the book about “a nine-year old boy revolving around advice on how to deal with the opposite sex.”Susan Downey is looking to produce the film, and oversee who writes the screenplay. A draft already exists by Ben Karlin and Stu Zicherman, but the film is being made strictly for Robert Downey, Jr.

Their source stresses that Downey is only eying the role, and no deals have been made yet. He’s still attached to star in Sam Raimi’s OZ: The Great and Powerful, which is could begin shooting next summer. He will also reprise his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, which is scheduled to begin shooting in February, and may have to go straight into Iron Man 3 if the scheduled release date (here) is to be met. His commitment to those projects could keep him away from this project, but if the film is being written for him, then it’s possible they can wait on him.
