Imagi Animation Studios is no more

Imagi Animation Studios is the production company that brought us animated features like TMNT and Astro Boy. Now, due to disappoint box office totals that especially caused by the under performance of Astro Boy, the company is forced to close down. Since this unfortunate move is being made, that leaves us wondering about Gatchaman. This feature is about five young superhero ninja in the employ of Dr. Kozaburō Nambu of the fictitious “International Science Organization” to oppose a group of technologically advanced villains, known as Galactor, from trying to take control of the Earth’s natural resources.

They’ve already been in production with the feature, as seen by these photo stills here, but because of this sudden fate of the production company, this property is completely dead. It’s a sad part of the business that we have to acknowledge at times but it does happen. Astro Boy comes out on DVD March 16th for those of you who are interested.
