Hopkins is Thor’s daddy

Anthony Hopkins is the newest addition to the “Thor” cast, filling up the role of the Norse god’s father Odin. The upcoming Kenneth Branagh directed comic book adaptation is scheduled to start shooting in January of 2010. The cast already contains a great amount of talent starting with Chris Hemsworth taking on the task of being the hammer wielding hero. The rest of them include Natalie Portman, Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hiddelston, and Jaimie Alexander.

The pic tracks partly disabled med student Dr. Donald Blake’s discovery of his Norse god alter ego, the hammer-swinging Thor (Variety). Penned by writers Zack Stentz and Mark Protosevich, the latest Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures feature will come out on May 20, 2011. Hopkins is already appearing on the big screen this fall co-starring with Benicio Del Toro in the remake of “The Wolf Man”. While both films aim to be visually appealing to say the least, the true test of their cinematic worth rests in the audience’s hands and can ultimately show if were ready to fully embrace monster movies again and still fully continue loving comic book adaptations.
