Hellraiser remake still in development, among other titles

Submitted by Matt Keith on July 29, 2010 – 12:55 pmNo Comment

With all the horror remakes being developed these days, it should come to no surprise the Hellraiser franchise would be among them. Plans for a remake have been in development for sometime now, but nothing has been heard on the status of that film.

Until now.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the now re-structured Weinstein Company has the ability to release it’s current films in development, but also begin production other planned films. These films include a remake to Clive Barker’s Hellraiser, a remake to Children of the Corn, another Halloween, and a sequel to the Scary Movie franchise. The studio has been out looking at Dunstan and Patrick Melton, Christian E. Christiansen, Cory Goodman to pen a treatment for Hellraiser.

The Weinstein company’s goal is to release about four-to-six films a year, beginning with Piranha 3-D on August 20. Harvey Weinstein will be focusing on giving it’s lesser known titles a lower budget (about $15-$25 million), that will allow for it’s platform releases to be expanded. Several of their Weinstein’s films are available under their agreement with Disney, which gave them rights to certain titles to remake.
