Helen Mirren jumps into Red

Submitted by Melissa Molina on November 5, 2009 – 1:42 amNo Comment

400_hmirren_090319_nbarnard_83313391“State of Play” actress Helen Mirren is getting her feet wet with another thriller as she hops onboard “Red”. This espionage thriller is not a typical run-of-the-mill story since it’s source material stems from a three issue comic book series that started with Wildstorm, a sub division of DC Comics. The story follows a former black-ops CIA agent who lives a quiet life in retirement until the day a high-tech assassin shows up intent on killing him (Variety).

Already on board the project is actors Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman. The script was written up by Erich and Jon Hoeber and is being directed by Robert Schwentke. The director’s most previous work includes the pilot to the Fox show “Lie to Me” and the feature “The Time Traveler’s Wife”. The newest film Mirren is appearing in, “The Last Station”, just made an appearance at this year’s AFI Film Festival.
