He-Man Reboot Loses Warner Brothers
If you grew up in the 80’s, you definitely know who He-Man is (and of course his twin sister She-Ra, for us girls). You also probably can’t help but get at least a little excited at the prospect of a new Masters of the Universe live-action film. (No, the first one was not good, but try again, right?)
Well, hold off on your excitement. Warner Brothers has just backed out of the planned collaboration with Mattel for the film, so we won’t be getting that one just yet (or maybe not at all). Warner Bros. and producer Joel Silver have been working on this project since 2007 but apparently Mattel and WB have not been in agreement over the direction of the project and decided “to let the option lapse this month.”
Mattel is now trying to get another studio on board for the film. The plan is for director John Stevenson (Kung Fu Panda), who had already signed on, to remain attached to the project. However, Joel Silver will not be involved as he is exclusive to Warner Bros. so a new producer will be needed.
I’m hoping by the Powers of Grayskull that this gets moving because whether it turns out to be a good movie or not, it’s still great childhood memories (except for Stinkor, he always made everything smell like skunk).
