Harald Zwart to play Bakugan

The Wrap gets word that Universal will be adapting the popular strategy game, Bakugan Battle Brawlers. Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid, One Night at McCool’s) is set to direct the film. The story is kind of like Pokemon in the sense that it’s about monsters called Bakugan are used by their owners, Battle Brawlers. The series wasn’t a success in Japan, but became popular in the U.S. and Canada, and was named “Toy of the year” in 2009.

Scott Stuber (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) and Jon Mone (The Wolfman) will be producing the film, with Ronnen Haray of Spin Master Ltd. There’s no word on who’s scripting the film.
