Ghost Rider 2 faces budget cuts?

The first Ghost Rider had a production cost of about $110 million and was a success earning a worldwide gross of $229 million. The sequel will coming in 3D, with Sony now partnering with Hyde Park Entertainment to co-finance the 3D used in the film. Now, it seems that Hyde Park Entertainment will also be co-financing the entire project, and cutting the budget.

An insider tells The Wrap the film’s budget has been cut from $135 million to $75 million. Sony will be focusing most of their money on Marc Webb’s Spider-man reboot, Men In Black 3, and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Hyde Park probably isn’t willing to put forth too much after the first was panned by many critics and fans alike, and is one of the least-anticipated films of 2012. Even Nicholas Cage’s fee of $12 million had been cut to only $7 million. Take this with a grain of salt for now as Sony has yet to comment on the news.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is scheduled to be released in February of 2012.
