Gerwig joins up on Arthur

Greta Gerwig continues to fill up her slate after the release of Greenberg as she signs on to play opposite Russell Brand in the Arthur remake. The actress will take on the female lead role of Linda, a charismatic shoplifter, a role originally played by Liza Minnelli and the one Gerwig will play in the remake (Collider).

Gerwig is the newest addition to the cast that includes not only Russell Brand playing the title role but Helen Mirren. Jason Winer is directing the project from the script written by Steve Gordon and Peter Baynham. The remake takes on the same story line of a drunken playboy (Brand) who stands to lose a wealthy inheritance when he falls for a woman (Gerwig) that his family doesn’t like. No word on when filming is set to begin, but the feature is poised to be released sometime in 2011 under Warner Bros Pictures.

Gerwig is in the middle of production at the moment for the Ivan Reitman directed comedy formerly titled Friends with Benefits which stars Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher.
