Fraser won’t Journey to the Center of the Earth again
New Line Cinema is planning a sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth, but seems they will be doing so without Brendan Fraser this time. Deadline Hollywood reports that while the sequel is getting a new director, it will be losing it’s star:
“Brad Peyton is making a deal to direct the Journey to the Center of the Earth sequel, as Brendan Fraser is withdrawing as the film’s star.”
There is word that Fraser could still return, but as of right now it’s unlikely. The studio is planning to move right into pre-production but are re-writing the script so Josh Hutcherson will lead. Hutcherson played the nephew of Brendan Fraser in the original. Fraser made the original because of he felt strong about Eric Brevig, who bailed to make Yogi Bear. This new film will be shot in 3-D like the original.
