Fox and Scott clash over Alien prequels

It looks like development on Ridley Scott’s Alien prequels have hit a little snag. The films have been moving along rather quickly recently, but Scott and Twentieth Century Fox are now disagreeing on the films’ rating and budget.

Sources tell Script Flags that Scott and Fox are disagreeing on what the films’ rating should be and the amount of money to invest in the project. Scott wants a budget around $250 million, and please fans with spectacular films. He also wants to keep the tradition and make two violent R-rated Alien films. On the other hand, Twentieth Century Fox don’t want to invest that much money, and are looking to give them a PG-13 rating so it would appeal to a larger audience.

Scott has recently described the films as “really tough, really nasty”, and an R-rating is best to achieve that goal. Fans have been anticipating Scott’s prequels, and a R-rating probably wouldn’t hurt the film’s box-office. Not to mention, both films will be released in 3-D, which will add more to the box-office revenue of each film. One of the many complaints of the first Alien vs. Predator was the lack of blood the series has had in the past was missing. It’s uncertain how long development will be stalled at this time.
