Four more want to be Smurfs

George Lopez, Katy Perry, Jonathan Winters and Alan Cumming all want to be Smurfs, well that’s at least what were thinking since all four of them are looking at lending their voice in The Smurfs movie. Already attached to the picture is Neil Patrick Harris playing the live action lead in the CGI animation/live action hybrid film based off the cartoon show of the same name that first came out in the early eighties.

The 84-year-old Winters, who voiced multiple characters on the long-running Hanna-Barbera cartoon version of “Smurfs,” will play Papa Smurf. Pop singer Perry is in talks to portray Smurfette, Alan Cumming is taking on Gutsy Smurf and George Lopez is onboard as Grouchy Smurf (Variety).

The film, directed by Raja Gosnell and written by David N. Weiss and J. David Stern, revolves around the adventures of a mythical race of little blue creatures in medieval times that must deal with each other and humans, particularly an evil wizard obsessed with capturing them for his own sinister purposes. The Smurfs is expected to be released on July 29th, 2011 under Columbia Pictures.
