Footloose Fast-tracked

I guess High School Musical 3′s numbers last weekend got studio heads thinking.  Because the flicks star Zac Efron has been tapped to star in Paramount’s reboot of the awesome ’80s flick Footloose.  The studio has brought on director Peter Sollett (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) to rewrite the Jon Hartmere script and hired Craig Zadan, Neil Meron, and Dylan Sellers as producers.  The studio is working on new songs to to go along with the new flick, but some of the classic songs are expected to be kept in the movie as well.  

I can say without a doubt that I don’t need to see a Footloose remake, but I guess the numbers don’t lie.  Someone is dropping coin at the box office and making these remakes profitable. And while I can certainly understand the studios decisions to constantly green-light remakes from a business standpoint, I just haven’t seen many of them work as well as the original.  Tell us what you think about a Footloose remake in the comments section.
