Fincher and Maguire make a Pawn Sacrifice

David Fincher and Tobey Maguire both end up  clinging onto the Sony and Columbia Pictures feature Pawn Sacrifice. Despite the fact that Fincher is rumored to be attached to several projects which include Black Hole, Oblivion and Heavy Metal, his main priority after wrapping up post-production with The Social Network is this biopic with clearly has Maguire starring as the strange Bobby Fischer.

A prodigy who captured the world’s imagination when he won the World Chess Championship over Russian Boris Spassky in a Cold War-era match that drew international media attention, Fischer had a rougher time after that. He faded from view, living abroad and surfacing to make anti-American and anti-Semitic statements. He lived in exile in Iceland until he died (Deadline New York).

Principal photography is expected to start up in the fall with a script penned by Eastern Promises scribe Steven Knight. Maguire is producing with Gail Katz and Jenno Topping all under his production company Maguire Entertainment. Maguire can next be seen in the Jacob Aaron Estes written and directed comedy called The Details.
