FilmDistrict grabs US rights to sci-fi feature Lockout
FilmDistrict have just picked up the U.S. rights to the sci-fi feature Lockout. EuropaCorp (Taken) had started to pre-sell the film’s foreign rights at Cannes earlier this year. The film will be produced by non other than Luc Besson, who has mentioned he would be bringing the world some new sci-fi films. James Mather and Stephen St Leger co-wrote the script with Besson and the pair are also set to direct the film.
Bob Berney from FilmDistrict stated “The sci-fi film will have classically-executed action sequences, in addition to a strong cast and gripping story.”
So far the film has locked in Maggie Grace and Guy Pearce for the lead roles. Peter Stormare and Tom Hollander have also been cast, with their roles unknown for the time being. The film is set to go into production early next year and it is aiming for a release in the early months of 2012.
Set in the near future, Lockout tells the story of a falsely convicted ex-government agent (Pearce) whose only chance of freedom is to accept a dangerous mission and rescue the president’s daughter (Grace) from rioting prisoners at an outer space maximum security prison.
