Everyone goes Mad for Alice
Sorry, I couldn’t resist. Audiences went absolutely nutty over the release of Walt Disney Pictures’ Alice in Wonderland with it’s estimated weekend total of $116.3 Million domestically. There have been surprising sold out shows, proving that people are completely eating up Linda Woolverton’s version of the Lewis Carroll novel that Tim Burton helped bring onto the big screen. It also proves once again what kind of star power the combination of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp can do within this day and age, and that’s quite a lot of cash. It did play a big factor into the box office revenue domestically that this film was in mouth-watering Disney Digital 3D and hogged up IMAX theaters across the country (finally bumping Avatar out of IMAX’s).
Let us not forget that there was one other new release this weekend, that being the Antoine Fuqua directed Brooklyn’s Finest that took in a small $13.5 Million, completely overshadowed by Disney. Every other film practically falls to the waist side this weekend, include Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island, within the box office, showing the true power of Disney once more.
The rest of the weekend box office stats are below thanks to ERC Box Office.:
