Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde comic coming to the big screen

We’ve seen numerous adaptations of Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1886 novel, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde over the last century, however, this time the character will be portrayed as an anti-hero. According to Heat Vision Blog, Skydance Productions and producer Mark Gordon will be adapting the Dark Horse comic, The Strange Case of Hyde to the big screen.

The comic won’t be a re-telling of the story, but gives a fresh new take by making the character fight against a historical villain. Cole Haddon, who’s writing the screenplay, states that “Mr. Hyde is one of my favorite literary villains, but he hasn’t been given his due on the big screen for the better part of a century.” He’s excited about “restoring him to his proper place in the pantheon of movie monsters: at the top of the food chain.”

The comic has yet to be unveiled, but you can look for it at Comic-Con this week. Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg of Dark Horse Comics will be producing along with Gordon. David Ellison will be producing through Skydance Productions, which is also financing the project. The production studio is also in a deal with Paramount to co-finance and co-produce.
