Details on Child’s Play remake
Yes, with just about every other horror film, Hollywood is looking to remake Tom Holland’s Child’s Play. The film was supposedly going to happen soon, but news on has been scarce. However, writer Don Mancini opens up to Screen Junkies about what we might see in the film.
The biggest question that Mancini answers is why a remake is being made. “I’m personally open to other things but I think that’s what the studio wants, because this movie (Seed of Chucky) didn’t do very well so I think the feeling is that Chucky’s viability, his future is in the more straightforward horror vein”, he said. Mancini does give some good news that it won’t be remake exactly, but more of a reboot, and lose the comedic approach of the previous two installments. “I think we’ll reboot it in the sense that it will just be more conventionally scary and it will only be Chucky and we won’t have Tiffany and Glen, but it won’t necessarily be a strict remake”, he said.
Mancini has spoke about taking a different approach to how Chucky came to life, and it’s possible those ideas could be added into the film. “It’s one of the things we’re talking about. I can’t say too much about it but one of the things we’re alluding to, it’s one of the things that we’re talking about”, he said. Mancini wants to keep the mythology of Charles Lee Ray, but also bring in a psychological feel into the remake. Mancini also wants this remake to go in a “very disturbing direction” as opposed to the previous two films’ comedic tone. There’s also a possibility the Good Guy dolls will get a redesign, although, only a slightly. Brad Dourif could also return to voice Chucky.
