Details on Captain America

Entertainment Weekly’s latest issue has been filled with many treats for comic book fans. We’ve already seen our first look at Chris Evans as Captain America (here), then a few more images that showed off more from the film, including our first look at Red Skull (here). Now, in that same issue, new details on the film have emerged (via /Film).

The article mentions that Evans was hesitant about signing a nine picture deal, but signed on for only six films. These include a Captain America trilogy, and a trilogy for The Avengers. Originally his deal called for him to appear in three other Marvel films, but it’s unknown what those were. Evans recently buffed up for the role (here), and director Joe Johnston will use “clever camera angles, costume trickery and special effects that will digitally reduce Evans’ body or even put his face on a skinny actor”.

Everyone knows the story about how Captain America became frozen in WWII, and ended up in the present day. It’s been wondered by many fans just how the writers will handle that issue in the movie. Johnston will be starting and ending the film with Captain America’s moments being frozen, and told as a flashback. The scene where S.H.I.E.L.D. finds Captain America could possibly be the beginning of The Avengers, but it’s unknown. Evans will also be wearing the classic Captain America outfit, but will eventually get a new and more advanced suit from Stark Industries.

Captain America: The First Avenger opens on July 22, 2011.
