Dear John stops Avatar at 7
The Nicholas Sparks novel adaptation of Dear John got enough women’s attention to go to the theaters and drag their poor boyfriends along in order to warrant it the number one spot of the weekend. This is the first weekend out of the eight weeks that Avatar has been out in theaters that it has not claimed the top spot, which comes as a surprise and a relief for all.
The John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers starring action feature From Paris With Love managed to bring in some of the audience, taking in $8.1 Million. Every other film slides it’s way down the list, not really garnering enough attention to really blast away this weekend unlike Avatar and Dear John. Although, we can talk about the Mel Gibson starring film Edge of Darkness and how it continues to struggle to make back it’s $80 Million dollar budget with a total of $29 Million accumulated already within the two week span of it’s release.
One of the surprises of this weekend’s box office is the constant rise of the Scott Cooper directed feature Crazy Heart. The film jumped up on the chart to take in $3.6 Million, which is great considering that it’s taken in $11.1 Million total with it’s $7 Million dollar budget. Here’s the rest of the totals below from Box Office Mojo.:
Weekend Box Office (February 5-7)
- Dear John  ($32.4 M)
- Avatar  ($23.6 M)
- From Paris With Love  ($8.1 M)
- Edge of Darkness  ($7 M)
- Tooth Fairy  ($6.5 M)
- When in Rome  ($5.5 M)
- The Book of Eli  ($4.8 M)
- Crazy Heart  ($3.6 M)
- Legion  ($3.4 M)

Get ready to be smothered by the Hallmark holiday next weekend as several films come out which include Valentine’s Day, Universal Pictures’ revamp of the monster movies with The Wolfman and Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.

hahahaha.. oh, thats funny.
Detrhroned by a chick flick
Well, 7 weeks in, anything could have beaten it, and the hype I got from women, I figured this would happen.
FROM PARIS WITH LOVE is a 2 star movie with 4 stars for fun. This is a movie that I think people would love if they gave it a shot. It’s predictable but the acting isn’t horrible and the action is great. It’s also short enough that it goes by fast. The film doesn’t lag. It’ll find its audience on DVD though.
