De Niro gets his Lombardi on

Vince Lombardi is getting the royal film treatment as ESPN Films, Andell Entertainment and the NFL collaborate to make a biopic on the popular sports figure. Robert De Niro just latched onto the lead role in the feature being produced by Jane Rosenthal along with De Niro. The film will focus on the years that Lombardi rebuilt the Green Bay Packers into gridiron NFL champions (THR). The picture, entitled Lombardi, is expected to be released in early 2012 before the Super Bowl.

De Niro, as you may or may not know, is attached to several other projects like Machete, Stone and Little Fockers which are all poised to be released sometime this year.
