DC to release two films per year; No Justice League confirmed
For comic book fans, it’s always been DC vs. Marvel. The movie business is the same way, but Marvel is easily beating out DC when it comes to comic book adaptations. However, the executives at DC Entertainment are looking to step up their game, and release two films per year.
Geoff Johns, CCO at DC Entertainment, spoke at the New York Comic-Con (via Cinema Blend), and revealed that two film adaptations of DC’s properties will be coming after the end of the Harry Potter franchise next July. The Harry Potter franchise has grossed over $5 billion, and The Deathly Hallows is sure to be a hit. This will leave a big hole for WB to fill, but DC characters will be the perfect way to fill in the gap. It’s assumed this will all begin with Batman 3 and The Man of Steel, which are both due to arrive in 2012.
Geoff Johns also confirmed at NYCC (via Cinema Blend) earlier reports (here) that a live-action Justice League isn’t on DC Entertainment radar for right now. Johns reasoning is that DC’s characters “are bigger than Marvel’s”, and they are against “smashing them together.” Nolan did somewhat speak of the same issue at one point, and this may be a way of taking Nolan’s advice. After all, he did give WB and DC a huge break with Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. However, it would seem unlikely that Justice League wouldn’t be made eventually, and this could all change once their characters make their big screen debut.
Meanwhile, Green Lantern will be making it’s big screen debut on June 17, 2011.
