Dan Aykroyd re-writing Ghostbusters 3

Fans are already skeptical if Ghostbusters 3will actually happen, but Dan Aykroyd is seems to be optimistic about it. Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (The Office) were brought in to write the screenplay, but was later Bill Murray lost hope after seeing their work on Harold Ramis’ Year One. Aykroyd has now taken it upon himself to tweak the screenplay.

Vanity Faircaught up with Aykroyd while promoting his Crystal Head Vodka, and revealed the news.  ”I think he was concerned that the writing on Ghostbusters 3 by these guys would not be up to standard, but I can tell you firsthand, I’m working on the script now,” he said. Bill Murray remains pessimistic despite that he’s reportedly on board, but Aykroyd claims that Stupnitsky and Eisenberg “wrote Bill the comic role of a lifetime.”

Despite Murray’s pessimism towards Stupnitsky and Eisenberg’s work on Year One, Aykroyd praises their work on the first draft. “We have a strong first draft that Harold [Ramis] and I will take back, and I’m very excited about working on it,”he said. He does confirm talk about handing the torch (or Porton pack) over to a new generation of Ghostbusters. One of the new Ghostbusters will reportedly be Dana Berret (Sigourney Weaver) and Bill Venkmen’s love child, but he doesn’t speak on that issue.

While a new team of Ghostbusters does seem like the most obvious way to continue the series, it may prove to be difficult to replace the chemistry the original four actors (Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Harold Ramis, and Bill Murray) had on screen. However, Aykroyd is fine with bringing in a new team.
