Cruz might go for Melancholia

Submitted by Melissa Molina on February 9, 2010 – 6:13 pmNo Comment

Penelope Cruz is lingering around the mind of Lars von Trier to take on the lead role in his upcoming project Melancholia. He already announced that he wants, and is trying to, get Cruz to jump into the role, says The Playlist. The science fiction/action trailer revolves around an enormous planet that evidently looms threateningly close to Earth, though the plot is not set in stone. The film is set to start principal photography sometime later this year with the hopes that it will premiere at next year’s Cannes Film Festival. The script is penned by von Trier, the latest after his written and directed feature Antichrist.

Producing the feature will be Peter Aalbaek Jensen who’s worked with von Trier in several movies like Antichrist, Manderlay and Dogville. Cruz was recently nominated for her performance in the Rob Marshall directed musical Nine. She can still be seen in the film that’s currently playing in theaters, depending on where you live, and will be seen in this summer’s release of Sex and the City 2.
