Criterion in January

Submitted by Jon Peters on October 16, 2009 – 7:14 amNo Comment

Today, the Criterion Collection has announced its three Blu-ray releases.

The 12th of January, sees Federico Fellini’s 8 1/2 with “The Last Sequence”, an all-new 50 minute documentary on Fellini’s lost alternative ending for the film, along with previous extras from the 2-disc DVD.

The 19th of January, has Steven Soderbergh’s Che, a film we here at Killer Film have raved about. The disc was originally slated for late December 2009, but has Criterion President stated in a recent email:

“Steven Soderbergh needed time to reconstruct some deleted scenes, and we were also able, in what we think is going to be a controversial coup, to persuade Che biographer Jon Lee Anderson to do commentaries on both films, but he also needed more time to prepare. In short, it became clear that if we delayed the release a month we would be able to make a much better set. That’s a trade we will always make, even if it means we don’t get the benefit of sales in the holiday season, and we think that’s the kind of decision our collectors would want us to make.”

Finally, on the 26th, look for Paris, Texas from director Wim Wenders. These discs are stacked with extras, but no cover art has been released.
