Could Batman appear in The Man of Steel?
Ever since Christopher Nolan was attached to “god-father” WB/DC Entertainment’s Superman reboot, it’s been speculated that we could finally see a crossover between the two characters. However, Nolan has repeatedly said that he believes that both characters belong in their separate universes, and that a crossover would be out of the question. But things do change.
The Daily Telegraph interviewed director Zack Snyder, and tried to get him to spill on his plans for The Man of Steel. Of course, he couldn’t say anything other than what we’ve already heard, but when asked about a crossover, Snyder didn’t exactly deny the possibility. ”He is a generous and amazing talent and as a producer super-supportive even in just the few weeks we’ve been talking about it”, he said. Perhaps his words were taken out of context, but could this mean that Nolan has changed his mind?
Nolan’s take on Batman is more realistic and how he could exist in the real world, and bringing in a character like Superman would seem to hurt the realistic aspect of Nolan’s films. However, for the sake of making a Justice League of America film, it would have to done. While both CCO Geoff Johns and President of DC Entertainment Diane Nelson have denied (here and here) plans to make Justice League, it would seem likely that it would happen down the road. After all, a live-action Justice League of America could prove to be as big as Joss Whedon’s The Avengers is looking. But for all we know Snyder’s statement could mean there be some reference to either character in Batman 3 or The Man of Steel to let the audience know there’s a bigger universe.
