Confirmed start dates for The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises

The summer of 2011 is already packed with a number of highly-anticipated comic book adaptations like Thor, Green Lantern, X-Men: First Class, and Captain America: The First Avenger, but most are anticipating 2012. Not only will is see the whole year filled with anticipated films, but two of the biggest is without a doubt Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises and Joss Whedon’s The Avengers. Both are looking to be the two of the biggest superhero films ever made.

Backstage has updated their production listings, and confirm earlier reports (here) that The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled to begin production in New Orleans in April. It’s not surprising as both of Nolan’s previous Batman films began around the same month. The site also lists Joss Whedon’s The Avengers to begin shooting next February. However, that could all change if the rumors (here) about the film’s budget are true. Unfortunately, details on either films’ plot are still secret, but we should know something on either film soon enough.
