Columbia brings back Doc Savage

Although this is some what old news, we previously reported that Lethal Weapon writer Shane Black was already set to pen the big screen adaptation of the popular pulp magazines centering on Doc Savage. Now it’s pretty much confirmed by Columbia Pictures that not is he only doing that but now he’s going to be directing the feature. Chuck Mondry and Anthony Bagarozzi are collaborating along with Black in terms of the script.

Doc Savage became part of fictional popularity in the 1930s and 40s who’s adventurous tales of mystery and danger captured many readers attention throughout the years. Here’s a bit more on what Matt Tolmach says on the upcoming project to Variety.:

“Doc Savage is an icon, a character with limitless possibilities,” said Columbia co-president Matt Tolmach of the character, who is by turns a scientist, physician, adventurer, inventor, explorer and researcher. “We have had a great experience working with Neal to bring another classic character of the era, the Green Hornet, to a new generation of fans, and we think he and Shane make the ideal team to bring Doc Savage back to the bigscreen.”
