Chris Rock takes on High and Low

BlackVoices (via MTV Movies Blog) breaks the news that producer/actor/writer/director Chris Rock is sinking his teeth once more into putting together a script, but this time it’s in the form of remaking Akira Kurosawa’s High and Low (Tengoku to jigoku). Closer and Charlie Wilson’s War director Mike Nichols has already been tapped to go and take the reigns on this remake. Here’s a bit more information on what the story is about (from BV).:

Based loosely on Evan Hunter’s ‘King’s Ransom,’ the story follows an executive named Kingo Gondo, who learns that his son has been kidnapped. He is prepared to pay the ransom amount until he discovers that the kidnappers mistakenly abducted the child of his chauffeur. Gondo must decide between keeping the money he has saved up for a critical corporate buyout or using it to save his driver’s son.

Chris Rock can next be seen co-starring along with Martin Lawrence, Tracy Morgan, James Marsden, Zoe Saldana and others in the Neil LaBute directed comedy Death at a Funeral this Friday in theaters everywhere.
