Cesar Chavez biopic in the works

The rights are being optioned by Keir Pearson and Larry Meli to make a biopic on Cesar Chavez, says The Hollywood Reporter. Pearson is set to pen the script with Larry Meli producing along with him. There is no specific time frame within the activist’s life that is being centered on from what we know at this time, but since they have full permission by the Cesar Chavez Foundation and the family, they’ll probably cover as much of his life as possible.

Chavez was a labor leader and a civil rights activist who, with Dolores Huerta, co-founded the National Farm Workers Association, which later became the United Farm Workers (UFW). He fought for farm workers rights for decades on end, even up until the day that he died. March 31rst, his birthday, is now known as Cesar Chavez Day and is recognized as a holiday in several states including California.
