Cate Blanchett plus more officially added to The Hobbit
The Hobbit has more names to add to it’s cast with Cate Blanchett, Ken Stott, Sylvester McCoy and Mikael Persbrandt all joining. The announcement was made by New Line and Warner Bros.
Blanchett is reprising her role as Galadriel, Stott will play Dwarf Lord Balin, McCoy will play wizard Radagast the Brown and Persbrandt will play shape-shifter Beorn.
Peter Jackson had this to say about the casting: “Cate is one of my favorite actors to work with and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have her reprise the role she so beautifully brought to life in the earlier films. Fran and I have long been fans of Ken’s work and are excited he will be joining us on this journey. The role of Beorn is an iconic one and Mikael was our first choice for the part. Since seeing him read for the role we can’t imagine anyone else playing this character.”
The two part epic will begin filming next February in New Zealand, and it is looking to have release dates of December 2012 and December 2013.

Cate Blanchett’s character is an elf, and elves do not age – but the actress is now 10 years older. Isn’t that going to be a problem? Or are they going to use some computer wizardry to erase the wrinkles? Also, is anyone else feeling twitchy there has been no announcement on Ian McKellen’s return? Has his deal fallen through?

McKellen has pretty much confirmed on his website that he’s back.
