Casting update for Fincher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
Sony has David Fincher’s remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo slated for a release in December 2011, but the film has yet to secure the actors for its lead roles. According to Deadline Hollywood, The studio is trying to secure Daniel Craig to play publisher Mikael Blomkvist. However, there’s apparently a scheduling conflict for his involvement in Cowboys and Aliens, and the still delayed Bond 23.
The casting for Lisbeth Salander isn’t looking any better. Sony is currently holding screen tests for various young actresses to portray the character. Ellen Page, Carey Mulligan, and  Mia Wasikowska have been mentioned as possible candidates. Other candidates have now emerged, which include Emily Browning, Sara Snook, Rooney Mara, Sophie Lowe. Some of the actresses have submitted audition tapes directly to David Fincher, and others will be screen-tested shortly.
This same thing was seen back when Sony was casting the lead in their untitled Spider-man reboot. Fincher is reportedly asking each actress to work on their Swedish accent, which hints the story won’t be Americanized. The film will be set in Sweden. Filming is scheduled to begin in October, so expect these roles to be filled soon. Steve Zaillian wrote the screenplay, with Scott Rudin producing.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is scheduled to open on December 21, 2011.
