Cannes 09′ winners

Michael Hanke finally received a well earned Palm D’or award over the weekend, when his hit film The White Ribbon won the coveted prize at this years Cannes film festival.    Ribbon marks the first win for Haneke whose previous films brought both controversy and high acclaim at previous years in Cannes starting with Funny Games and leading up to such brilliant work as Cache and The Piano Teacher.

Never one to not stir up strong feelings on his work Danish director Lars Von Trier’s Antichrist walked away with the best actress prize for Charlotte Gainsberg.   Antichrist was easily the most talked about film of the fest with people having such strong hate for the film or respect and love for the work.    The films biggest shock came with a small prize given years by a  Ecumenical Jury  at the fest for work that has high spiritual value, when after presenting Ken Loach with this years award for his film Looking For Eric then presented Anti Christ with an ‘award’ for being ”the most misogynist movie from the self-proclaimed biggest director in the world” .
